Mark Hunt’s performance at Fight Night Japan against Roy Nelson has earned the New Zealand native his breakthrough into the top 5 of the heavyweight division rankings.
Hunt’s perfectly-placed right uppercut three minutes into the second round of the Fight Night Japan main event over the weekend impressed the voting panelists, allowing the 40-year-old to pass Josh Barnett, now No. 6 at heavyweight, in the official UFC rankings.
Hunt immediately made his plea for a fight that will put him on the road to a title shot at the Fight Night Japan post-fight press conference.

Alistair Overeem and Stefan Struve, two of the most feared strikers in the heavyweight division, verbally agreed on Wednesday to throw down at Fight Night Phoenix on Dec. 13 – the UFC’s first trip to Arizona.

Arlovski, the former UFC heavyweight champion, won his second-straight inside the Octagon and he did so in dephastating fashion. The fighting future of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre may be in question, but one thing is for sure according to UFC President Dana White: if and when GSP returns to the Octagon, he can have whatever fight he wants.
“It would be tough to deny that GSP comes right back and doesn’t fight for the title, you know what I mean?” White told UFC.com in his weekly interview. “GSP can do whatever he wants. If he wants to come back and fight for the title, or if he wants a fight before that – he can do whatever he wants.”

Jacare Souza became the first UFC fighter to finish Gegard Mousasi last Friday night in the main event of Fight Night Foxwoods and has made a jump to the No. 2 spot at middleweight in the latest official UFC rankings.
