A light heavyweight match between Australian jiu-jitsu expert Anthony Perosh (13-7) and brawler Joey Beltran (14-8) has been added to the UFC on FX 6 show that takes place on Dec. 15.
The event takes place in the morning and early afternoon in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia, and will air live on Dec. 14 in prime time in the U.S. It will serve as the finals of “The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K.” Two tournament finals will be on the show, which is headlined by the coach’s battle between Australia’s George Sotiropolous and the U.K.’s Ross Pearson. A co-headliner pits Hector Lombard against Rousimar Palhares.
The UFC announced the match on Tuesday.
Both Perosh and Beltran fought previously as heavyweights. The 40-year-old Perosh had won three UFC bouts in a row since moving back to light-heavyweight before being knocked out in seven seconds by Ryan Jimmo at UFC 149 on July 21 in Calgary. It was among the fastest knockouts in UFC history.
Beltran was a cult favorite as a heavyweight who was involved in back-and-forth slugfests, often more back than forth, where he was noted for having amazing durability. The San Diego-based “Mexicutioner” has ?taken some major beatings in a lot of fights, including most recently in a decision loss to James Te Huna on July 11 that was Beltran’s light-heavyweight debut. Still, he’s only been stopped by punches ?once in his career, by heavy hitter Lavar Johnson.
But Beltran has lost five of his last six UFC fights, and even with his reputation for entertaining fights, his back may be against the wall with this bout.
