Not only did Scott Jorgensen set a UFC/WEC bantamweight record by scoring his 10th victory in the division on Saturday, but he also picked up a pair of bonuses for his effort.
The veteran from Boise, Idaho scored a dramatic win over local favorite John Albert in the opening bout of UFC on FOX 5 at Seattle’s KeyArena. Jorgensen escaped a deep triangle, then won the bout with a rear naked choke, as Albert tapped out a split second before the horn sounded to end the first round.
The UFC was impressed with Jorgensen’s performance. They gave him $65,000 for Submission of the Night, then threw in another $65K for Fight of the Night, an award Albert will also pocket for the back-and-forth battle.
Veteran Yves Edwards cashed in as well on Saturday night. His vicious finish of Jeremy Stephens in the first round of their fight earned Edwards Knockout of the Night honors, for which he’ll also take home $65,000.
