UFC Fight Night 34 has suffered another setback.

One day after Hyun Gyu Lim took Jake Ellenberger’s place in the main event against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine, the co-main event also lost one of the fighters.

Hacran Dias of his planned co-feature about against UFC newcomer Tatsuya Kawajiri, due to an injury. MMAFighting.com confirmed the news with sources close to the situation, which was first reported by MMA Junkie.

The UFC has yet to officially announce Dias’ injury and Kawajiri’s new opponent.

Dias, who hasn’t fought since a decision loss to Nik Lentz in May, was expected to meet Rodrigo Damm at UFC Fight Night 29 in October, but the bout was cancelled a couple days before the weigh-ins when Damm was forced to withdraw due to kidney issues.

UFC also has a new bout set for Jan. 4 card at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore.

MMAFighting.com learned with sources close to the situation that Leandro Issa has signed a deal with the promotion and has verbally agreed to face Russell Doane. Fight Sport Asia first reported the match-up.

Doane signed a deal with the UFC after scoring a fourth-round knockout victory over UFC veteran Jared Papazian at Tachi Palace Fights 17 last October, earning the vacant bantamweight title.

Issa was set to fight Koetsu Okazaki at One FC 13 on Dec. 6, but chose to leave the card and sign a deal with the UFC. The Brazilian has won eight of his past nine bouts, including five straight submissions between 2008-10.

According to reports, Shinya Aoki and Eddie Ng were also offered deals with the UFC, but decided to stay at Asia’s One FC.

“ONE FC has always worked with the best gyms and promotions in Asia and we are very proud to have the best fighters in Asia showcased on One FC,” promotion’s CEO Victor Cui told MMAFighting.com. “Shinya Aoki, Eddie Ng, and Bibiano Fernandes are great examples of fighters that have created a huge following from millions One FC fans and found a home with the biggest organization in Asia.

“Our focus is to attract and build the most talented Asian fighters and champions – from time to time, I would consider giving fighters to other organizations whenever the opportunity makes sense.”

The Standout Fighting Tournament returned to Sao Paulo, Brazil, this Friday night with an action-packed card, and featured another victory of UFC veteran Luiz Cane in the main event.

“Banha”, who scored a devastating knockout win over fellow UFC veteran Rodney Wallace at SFT 1 last September, faced the dangerous Chute Boxe veteran Fabio Silva in a three-round battle, and improved his MMA record to 14-5 and one no-contest with an unanimous decision win.

Cane came close to finishing the fight in the opening round, landing some vicious elbows from the clinch, but somehow Silva managed to survive. Cane increased the pressure in the second round, but Silva came back strong in the final round and rocked Cane, who was able to handle the pressure.

“Fabio is a tough fighter, but I was ready for a war,” Cane said after the fight. “I had other plans for this bout, but I couldn’t do it because I hurt my hand in the second round, so I have to go to the hospital now to check if it’s broken.”

After the three-round fight, SFT announced that Cane is invited to fight for the inaugural light heavyweight championship, but the Sao Paulo native has other plans.

“My goal is to return to the UFC,” Cane said after his second straight win since leaving the Octagon. “I don’t know what God has planned for me, but I’d return to fight again here in the future.”

In the co-main event, Joao Isidoro scored the upset of the night. Entering the cage with a 0-1 record, Isidoro stopped every takedown attempt from Edson Franca (18-8), who was coming off a 35-second stoppage win over Bob Sapp, and landed the better punches to earn the victory on the judges’ scorecards.

“This guy has almost 30 fights in his record and I was able to defeat him,” an emotional Isidoro said after the bout. “He deserves all the respect. Thank you for the opportunity.”

Franca is scheduled to return to the cage on Dev. 7, when he takes on Douglas Simoes at Jungle Fight 62 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but there’s no word yet if he’ll still be able to compete after tonight’s 15-minute fight.

Diogo Cavalcanti (7-1) scored a quick submission victory over Paulo Silva (10-11), locking an standing guillotine in just 81 seconds, and used his post-fight speech to try to solve some personal issues.

“Mom, I love you, but I also love my fiancée,” Cavalcanti, a teammate of UFC’s Rani Yahya, said after his win. “You need to solve your differences now [laughs].”

Coming off a disappointing loss, Allan Nascimento (11-2) returned to the win column with a quick victory over Alex Silva (1-2). The Chute Boxe fighter, who trains with UFC’s Felipe Arantes, quickly took the fight to the mat, got the back and finished the bout at 2:11 of the opening round with a rear-naked choke.

In the biggest mismatch of the card, Carina Damm (21-10) easily beat Daiane Firmino (1-1) in the first bout of the main card. Damm worked for submissions from the full mount in the first couple rounds, but Firmino bravely defended. Damm gassed in the third, and manage to survive to Firmino’s attempts and pick up the decision win.

“It was a war,” Damm said after the fight, her second win in less than two weeks.

“I gassed in the third round, but I fought and won three times in two months and the weight cut was too much. And we don’t fight a brave newcomer very often. She defended all my submission attempts, some positions that use every day in trainings. No offense to her team, but I would like to have her training at my team now.”

Flavio Alvaro (45-10) vs. Udi Lima (23-13), planned for tonight’s co-main event, was cancelled this morning when Alvaro was hospitalized with kidney issues.

“The fight is off, but it’s going to happen sooner or later,” Lima said. “Flavio Alvaro talked too much and didn’t show up. If he wants to fight, we’re going to have a fight.”

UFC has found a replacement for Jake Ellenberger for the promotion’s debut in Singapore.

With Ellenberger out due to injury, the UFC has decided to move Hyun Gyu Lim to the main event against Tarec Saffiedine on Jan. 4. With the change, Kiichi Kunimoto, Lim’s original opponent on the same card, now takes on Luiz Dutra Junior. Tatame and MMA Informativo first reported the news.

Unbeaten inside the Octagon, Lim (12-3-1) has looked impressive inside the cage. A former Pacific Xtreme Combat welterweight champion, “The Ace” stopped Pascal Krauss and Marcelo Guimaraes with knees and punches in his UFC bouts earlier this year.

Saffiedine (14-3) hasn’t fought much lately. In his last bout in January, “Sponge” dominated Nate Marquardt to win the Strikeforce welterweight title. Prior to the win, the striker scored victories over Roger Bowling, Tyler Stinson and Scott Smith.

Kunimoto (15-5-2, 1 no-contest) and Dutra (11-2-1), who also meet at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, making their promotional debuts. Both welterweights enter the cage riding a four-fight win streak with three finishes, while Dutra has won another pair of exhibition wins during TUF: Brazil 2 before hurting his hand and being forced to leave the show.

UFC Fight Night 34 card is the following:

Hyun Gyu Lim vs. Tarec Saffiedine
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Hacran Dias
Luiz Dutra Jr. vs. Kiichi Kunimoto
Kyung-Ho Kang vs. Shunichi Shimizu
Katsunori Kikuno vs. Quinn Mulhern
Dustin Kimura vs. Jon Delos Reyes

Luiz Cane wants to return to the UFC, and he plans to beat anyone steps in front of him until he gets a call from Joe Silva.

Released from the promotion after back-to-back losses to Chris Camozzi and Stanislav Nedkov, and a 4-5 record inside the Octagon, “Banha” returned to action at Standout Fighting Tournament’s first edition on Sept. 21. He needed less than four minutes to finish fellow UFC veteran Rodney Wallace with a flying knee.

Cane headlines Friday’s SFT 2 card in Sao Paulo, Brazil, against Sengoku and K-1 Hero’s veteran Fabio Silva, and he wants to impress once again. However, he’s not looking past Silva.

“My plan is to go back to the UFC,” Cane told MMAFighting.com. “That’s the goal I set for myself as soon as I left the promotion. I want to go back to the UFC, and I’m working for that. But I would be a fool to think about that before this fight. I’m focused on the fight, and not where it could take me. I’ll think about that after the fight.”

Standout Fighting Tournament 2 takes place at Mauro Pinheiro Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the action will stream live at MMAFighting.com this Friday, starting at 6 p.m. ET.

“Banha” decided to move back to Brazil and train at Demian Maia’s team in Sao Paulo after being released from the UFC, and he has no plans to go back to the United States.

“My camp was great and I feel ready for the fight,” he said. “The team is strong. I love to train in Brazil again. The structure here is excellent and we have some great training partners. Eduardo Alonso is doing an excellent job, and I’ll do my best to go there and get the win.”

Fabio Silva has a 13-6 record who has fought only once since 2009, but Cane knows he can’t underestimate his power.

“Fabio Silva is a long-time veteran who hasn’t fought for a while, but he’s really tough,” he said. “He has fought a lot in Japan, fought guys like ‘King Mo’ and Melvin Manhoef, so he’s dangerous and aggressive. It’s a great match-up and the fans will watch a great fight, for sure.”

The long-awaited UFC debut of Tarec Saffiedine has been thrown another curveball.

The former Strikeforce welterweight champion was set to headline UFC’s first trip to Singapore on Jan. 4 against Jake Ellenberger, but “Sponge” is currently waiting for a new opponent. Ellenberger confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com, citing a pulled muscle. He will not need surgery.

According to sources close to the situation, the UFC is currently seeking for a replacement for the main event, but it hasn’t officially announced the injury yet. Combate first reported the injury.

Saffiedine (14-3) hasn’t fought since January, when he dominated Nate Marquardt to become Strikeforce’s last welterweight champion. Prior to the title win, the Team Quest product scored decision victories over Roger Bowling, Tyler Stinson and Scott Smith under the Strikeforce banner.

A new pair of bouts are set for UFC’s return to Brazil in 2014.

Charles Oliveira will fight for the first time in his native country since signing with the UFC. “Do Bronx” will fight British featherweight Andy Ogle at UFC Fight Night 36 in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, on Feb. 15, the promotion recently announced. Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo and Jesse Ronson are also set to compete on the card, MMAFighting.com confirmed following a report from Tatame.

Oliveira (14-4, 1 no-contest) enters the cage coming off back-to-back losses to Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson. The jiu-jitsu specialist, who scored wins over “The Ultimate Fighter” winners Jonathan Brookins and Efrain Escudero during his 4-4 (with 1 no-contest) run in the promotion hasn’t won a fight since June 2012. Oliveira was expected to face Jeremy Larsen, who was replacing Estevan Payan at UFC 166, but was forced off the card with an injury.

Like Cristiano Marcello and Joe Proctor, who are set to compete at UFN 36, Ogle (9-3) is another TUF 15 contestant who will fight on Brazil’s first UFC card of 2014. Forced out of a fight with Conor McGregor last August due to an injury, Ogle lost to Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 30 in Manchester, England, and he’ll look to win his second fight in four bouts under the UFC banner.

“Massaranduba” (13-3), a TUF: Brazil contestant in the middleweight division, looks to return to the win column after a submission loss to Piotr Hallmann at UFC Fight Night 28. Prior to that bout, the lightweight was coming off submission victories over Mike Rio and C.J. Keith.

Ronson, who holds an identical 13-3 record in MMA, made his UFC debut last September after eight consecutive victories, with five finishes, but suffered a decision loss to Michel dos Prazeres at UFC 165.

A middleweight contest between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi headlines the card at the Arena Jaragua, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza meets Francis Carmont in the co-main event.
