A welterweight matchup between perennial contender Jon Fitch and
Brazilian submission ace Demian Maia is the latest addition to
February’s UFC 156 event.

UFC officials today announced the new contest.

Featuring a featherweight title fight between current champ Jose Aldo
and former lightweight title holder Frankie Edgar, UFC 156 takes place
Feb. 2 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The evening’s main
card airs on pay-per-view.

With MMA’s big 2013 television-schedule shuffle rapidly approaching,
Bellator Fighting Championships has apparently played its first card.

MMAjunkie.com has
confirmed with the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board that
Bellator has reserved Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall for Thursday, Jan.
10.

Bellator officials were not immediately
available for comment, but sources close to the promotion suggested that
event will serve as Bellator 85 and mark the company’s debut on Spike
TV.

Georges St-Pierre is officially back, and even his haters must be glad to see him again. Not
that they’ll admit it, but you know it’s true.

What fun is it to complain about someone who’s at home with a knee
injury? How much enjoyment can you possibly get out of hating on a
fighter who’s not around to be hated on?

I suspect many
fight fans are surprised at how much they missed having him around. Now
they can get back to one of their favorite pastimes: complaining about
how he wins.

MONTREAL – At a uniformly polite pre-event presser for his return to the
cage, welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre mused that the NHL
lockout has made the UFC even bigger in Canada.

But as to whether there’s more or less buzz for UFC 154 than the two
other events he’s headlined in Montreal, St-Pierre couldn’t see much of a
difference.

“All my fights are big fights,” he said. “The only thing that’s changed is my opponents. But it’s always a big buzz.”

A lightweight bout for December’s UFC 155 event has undergone a makeover as Jim Miller steps in to replace an injured Gray Maynard and now faces Joe Lauzon.

Featuring a heavyweight title fight between current champion Junior Dos Santos and former champion Cain Velasquez in the evening’s main event, UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Perennial welterweight contender Martin Kampmann could very well be just one fight away from a shot at the UFC’s
170-pound title.

Of course, no one has promised him anything. That doesn’t bother
the “Hitman” one bit.

“I’m on a good winning streak, and I’ve beaten some tough guys,”
Kampmann told MMAjunkie.com. “I want to get this
win, I want to beat up Johny, and I want to get the title. That’s my
goal.”
