SUNRISE, Fla. – So much for the theory that Eddie Wineland struggles against wrestlers.

The bantamweight put that talk to bed Friday night with a vicious knockout of Scott Jorgensen – who had never been knocked out before in his career.

Wineland stopped Jorgensen, roughly a 2-to-1 favorite, to open up the main card of UFC on FX 3 at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

SUNRISE, Fla. – If Hector Lombard is as good as advertised when he makes his UFC debut later this summer, don’t be surprised if he immediately hops in line for a middleweight title shot.

UFC president Dana White said as much Friday following the post-fight news conference for UFC on FX 3, which took place at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Lombard, the recently signed former Bellator middleweight champion, brings a 25-fight unbeaten streak to the UFC.

SUNRISE, Fla. – The UFC’s return to South Florida was five years in the making. Unfortunately for area fans, it might be another five before the next visit – if not more.

UFC president Dana White, following Friday’s UFC on FX 3 card, said he was disappointed in the turnout – and that continued trouble with ticket sales in the Florida market have him perplexed.

When reminded at the post-fight news conference that it had been a while since the UFC had been to South Florida, White quickly quipped, “It’s going to be a while again.”

SUNRISE, Fla. – There are no issues with Anderson Silva’s knee, according UFC president Dana White. 

“None whatsoever,” White told MMAjunkie.com following UFC on FX 3. “That’s completely false. Not true at all.”

Multiple Brazilian media outlets recently reported the middleweight champ injured himself in training. Silva then took to Twitter to assure fans he was OK and would fight Chael Sonnen as planned. 

SUNRISE, Fla. – To hear Dana White tell it, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua really doesn’t want to fight Glover Teixeira.

That news came out earlier this month. But on Friday, White expanded on Rua’s decision to turn down a fight with the new UFC light heavyweight prospect – saying the former champion was even willing to be released from the organization rather than take a fight with Teixeira.

“He would rather be cut than fight him,” White said.

SUNRISE, Fla. – Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall had to wait three months to play back their first fight – and rounds 4-5-6 were just as fun as 1-2-3.

It stands to reason the two flyweights could go another three rounds and still not have things truly settled. But on Friday, it was Johnson who finally emerged as the other half of the UFC’s first 125-pound title fight. Johnson took a unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28.

The flyweight fight took place at UFC on FX 3 at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The bout served as the main event, which was broadcast on FX following a preliminary card that aired on Facebook and FUEL TV. The fight was the first flyweight main event in UFC history.
