It will have been a while coming, but the light heavyweight showdown between Quinton Jackson and Glover Teixeira will happen, and it’s got a date.

Jackson will meet Teixeira when the UFC returns to Chicago for UFC on FOX 6 in January. “Rampage” late Tuesday announced the fight booking through his Twitter account.

UFC on FOX 6 will take place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago. The main card will air on FOX with prelims expected for FX and Facebook.

Just a day after the UFC announced it would return to Chicago for UFC on FOX 6, the televised card already has started to take shape.

The main event will be the first flyweight title defense of new champion Demetrious Johnson against top contender John Dodson. And a potential lightweight title eliminator between Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone also will take place on the card.

UFC officials on Tuesday announced the two fights on FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight.”

Don’t expect to see onetime UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves back in the octagon for a while.

The Florida-based Brazilian recently underwent surgery and rather than make a hasty return, he has elected to take his time coming back to heal up other longstanding nagging injuries at the same time.

Alves estimates he may not return to action until June 2013. He most recently fought this past March.

Nine fighters, including headliner Devin Cole, were issued medical suspensions of up to 180 days following this past weekend’s World Series of Fighting debut.

WSOF 1 took place at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The main card, including former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski’s win over Cole, aired live on NBC Sports Network.

Cole was suspended for 45 days, but could be out as long as 180 days if his left knee is not cleared by a doctor. He was stopped by Arlovski by TKO in the first round.

Ten fighters, including headliner Efrain Escudero, were issued medical suspensions of up to 180 days following this past weekend’s Resurrection Fighting Alliance 4 event.

Resurrection Fighting Alliance 4 took place at Las Vegas’ Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel.  

Escudero’s suspension term is just for 21 days with no contact for 14 days. Fellow notable Sergio Pettis, brother of UFC lightweight Anthony Pettis, was suspended for 30 days for a facial contusion in his victory over Jimmy Jones.

The full fight card is set for next week’s Bellator 81 event.

Rich Clementi meets Marcin Held in the main event, and Ricardo Tirloni takes on Dave Jansen in the co-feature, with the winners advancing to fight each other in the Season 7 light weight tournament finals.

Also on the main card, two-time featherweight tournament finalist Marlon Sandro meets UFC and Strikeforce veteran Dustin Neace. And in a middleweight fight, Jonas Billstein meets Perry Filkins.
