UFC Iterim Heavyweight Title Fight:  Fabricio Werdum vs. Mark Hunt

Betting Pick:  Werdum

Bet on this fight at Bovada

On Saturday, November 15th from Mexico City, Mexico, UFC 180 brings us Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum vs. Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt. As we all know, this was supposed to be a fight for the UFC Heavy Weight Championship belt until yet another untimely injury to Cain Velasquez. Instead, Mark Hunt will take the place of the title holder and this will be a Interim Heavyweight Title fight with the winner to fight Velasquez whenever Cain is healed up and ready to go. Besides all of that we still have a wonderful match-up in front of us. Two completely different fighting styles will make this match quite intriguing to all UFC fans watching. Now lets break it down by fighter…

Mark Hunt

Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt will give Werdum all he can handle in this interim Heavyweight Title fight. With a 10-8-1 record and not having recorded a submission victory will try and keep Werdum on his feet as long as possible. Hunt has been given praise lately by many of those in the UFC with some of them stating that he could possibly have the heaviest hands in the game. Also, not only can Hunt place one on their back with one solid blow, he can also take numerous shot to the chin without a flinch. Don’t let his size fool you either, Hunt can move around the ring with flow like rhythm and keep his opponent at a distance which make it tough for the most experienced of fighters confused. As I stated earlier, you’re not going to see Hunt take to many shots at Werdum but he will use his wrestling skills if he’s forced near the cage to make his way back out into the center. Hunt also has been known to show some decent grappling skills when needed. He can control an opponent will his brut strength and occasionally place his opponent in difficult spots to make any advances and to also maybe give Hunt a well needed rest. My advice for the “Super Samoan” is stick to what he knows best and don’t fall for the traps Werdum will set. Stay on your feet, pick your spots, overpower Werdum when near the cage, and finally land a blow that will prove that you’re meant to be there.

Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum

Werdum is the clear cut favorite in this match and its well deserved. Werdum not long ago thought he was going to be fighting for the Heavyweight Title against Cain Velasquez. Well, things have changed and here we are. If I were to presume what Werdum will be thinking once he steps into that Octagon, it’s to get Hunt on the ground as soon as possible. Werdum is known as one of the best HW grapplers in the UFC. Now I’m not implying that Werdum won’t be able to gain points while on his feet, but why would he want to keep Hunt in his wheelhouse.

Prediction

When it comes down to it , you have to expect that Werdum has a game plan to keep the heavy fist of Hunt from landing a walk off KO by shooting and placing him on his back. If this fight is to go the distance, you have to expect that Werdum would have the advantage in submission possibilities and just being able to control Hunt with his world-class grappling techniques. I personally don’t think this fight will go the distance with Werdum winning by submission in the second or third round. He’s going to tire hunt by keeping him on the ground and it will inevitably lead to Hunt being in a bad spot and Werdum will strike.

Winner:  Fabricio Werdum by Submission in the 3rd Round.

Current UFC 180 Betting Lines – This Saturday UFC 180 comes to us LIVE from Mexico City, Mexico. Due to Cain Velasquez tearing his meniscus, Mark hunt has been brought in as a replacement and the winner of this fight will be the interim Heavyweight Champion of the UFC. Despite the loss of Velasquez, you will not want to miss this fight! Rarely do you get two Heavyweight fighters into the octagon with completely different fighting styles. Mark “Super Somoan” Hunt could possibly have the heaviest hands right now in the UFC, and Fabricio “Val Cavalo” Werdum has made 9 of his 18 victims in the UFC tap out. Something tells me that these guys want this one to end quickly. Will Werdum be able to get this massive Samoan to tap, or will Hunt land a devastating left and once again watch his opponent drop limp onto the mat. All these question will be answered this Saturday at UFC 180!

Rockhold vs. Bisping Prediction

UFC Middleweight Bout:  Luke Rockhold vs. Michael Bisping

Odds:  ( -450 Rockhold / +325 Bisping )

Betting Pick:  Rockhold

Bet on this fight at Bovada

UFC Fight Night 55 will play host to a Top-Ten match-up between #5 Luke Rockhold (12-2-0) and #9 Michael “The Count” Bisping (26-6-0). We all know there is only one way in sports to be champion, and that’s beat everyone that stands in your path. Both of this fighters have much to prove before getting that elusive title shot, and it seems like there is no better time than now. With all of the offense these fighters possess, this will sure give the crowd what they came for.

Luke Rockhold

If either of these guys have an edge due to momentum, its Rockhold. He’s won his two last fights and he’s looking to make a case for a chance at that Middle Weight Title. With 50% of wins coming from submission one wouldn’t think to worry about the striking power of Rockhold, I disagree. Using the eye test on the recent fights of Rockhold, I like to think he has effective power. He picks his spots and lands the punches he knows will set him up for what he wants to do next. Now, as we all know, we are not going to see Rockhold shooting too many times throughout this match but for how bad that skill might be, he defense of it is much better. Bisping typically averages about 1.5 takedowns per fight and I think here, in this fight, he’ll be lucky to land one. Now, lets say Rockhold does shoot and lands, Bisping better have been working on his submission defense. Rockhold has won by submission 6 of his 12 career wins so maybe Bisping just might want to stay off the mat whenever he can. Rockhold seems to be on the way up, but I promise you, if he at all takes Bisping for less than a threat he’ll be in for a long fight.

Michael Bisping

Bisping has a serious challenge in front of him but only a fool would completely count him out. Lets just have a look at the simple stats that indicate that in 26 career wins, he’s won by KO/TKO. If that doesn’t scare you, well then I guess you’re probably a UFC fighter. Even with all of the KO.TKO victories Bisping might have, he also takes many fights deep into the rounds. He has gone to decision numerous times and when the fight was over, it looked like he had 5 more in him. If Bisping wants to make this fight interesting all he has to do is stay in it till the end. Bisping will be able out pace Rockhold in the latter rounds and pick up the points he might have lost in the first or second. Bisping just needs to do what he does best, move, strike (often), and stay off the mat. If he can be effective in all three of those categories, this will be the fight we hope it to be.

Prediction

Looking at the Vegas odds, It seems they’re pretty confident with Rockhold taking this one quite handedly. Now personally I think Rockhold will win this fight as long as he sticks to what he does best and that’s be efficient. Also, he needs to think about ending this one quicker than his norm due to the stamina that Bisping. Rockhold needs to put Bisping on his back and take care of business from there.

Winner Luke Rockhold by third round Submission.

Rua vs. St. Preux Prediction

UFC Light Heavyweight Bout:  Mauricio Rua vs. Ovince St. Preux

Odds:  ( -185 Rua / +160 St. Preux )

Betting Pick: Shogun Rua

Bet on this fight at Bovada

This Saturday UFC Fight Night come to us all the way from Uberlandia, Brazil. At the top of the card comes a fight you will not want to miss with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (22-9-0) vs. Ovince Saint Preux (16-6-0). What interest me the most about this fight is seeing who’s ready to be back in the octagon following pretty bad loses. Each fighter I assure you is ready but only one will show us they are ready to take their game back to where it once was.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

We can all start off by being honest with ourselves by saying we aren’t going to see the Shogun of old, right? Shogun did just come off a bad loss last March that ended in a broken nose and some serious time away from the octagon. Maybe all Shogun needed was a little time away to figure out what exactly happened in March. Shogun has some serious talents that I think will be refined and ready to go on Saturday night. His ground-game, grappling, striking, and power are all done with a soundness fighters can only dream of. Not only are his strikes powerful, they’re fast as well. Shogun lands nearly 3.6 significant strikes per minute in a typical fight throughout his UFC career. Good news for Shogun, this fight will not be a typical one. His opponent, St. Peru, is just as bad at defense as Shogun is. My advice for Shogun, be ready to hit someone. Those spots are going to come early and often, just don’t blink or you’ll be in a double before you can even think of the next round

Ovince Saint Perux

Here again we have a talented fight coming off a lose he definitely wishes he can have back. St. Peru lost by decision just this last August is a very lackluster performance to say the least. St. Perux though is a very talented fight and in no way should Shogun be taking this fight easily just because he’s a replacement. With a college football and wrestling background, this guy is the epitome of an athlete. He shadows over Shogun in nearly every physical category but can move his feet with the best of them. Now, if Saint Peru could just move his head as well as his feet, this match would probably be a different story. Over 50% of all opponents strikes hit Saint Perux and with the power behind “Shogun” that worries me a little. These aren’t going to be punch he’ll able to just shrug off because they’ll come in bunches. My advice for Saint Perux, find your spots to take him down and keep him there. Use your power from close range overpower “Shogun” and land a few brutal blows that could possibly end it.

Prediction

The experience of “Shogun” will over-shadow any type of physical dominance Saint Perux might have. Do I think we’ll see the “Shogun” of old, no, but do I think that we’ll see a “Shogun” bring a new aspect to the octagon we’ve never seen before, absolutely.

Winner : Mauricio “Shogun” Rua  by  Unanimous Decision

Current UFC Fight Night 56 Betting Lines – On Saturday, November 8th, 2014, UFC Fight Night 56 comes to us all the way from Uberlandia, Brazil. Shogun Rua (22-9) will square off against Ovince St. Preux (16-6). This will be a tough match for both fighters due to the completely different mindset they’re entering this match with. You have St. Preux who I would believe looks to physically dominate the match with advantages in nearly physical category but on the other hand the experience and understand of the sport clearly favors of the side of Shogun. If St. Preux can’t find his spots early, look for this one to go the distance.
