Chris Leben receives 120 days of jail time, three years probation for attempted break in

Retired UFC fighter Chris Leben was sentenced to 120 days of jail on Monday, as well as given three years of additional probation for his part in an attempted break-in and felony possession of an assault weapon.

Leben entered a guilty plea for attempting to break into the apartment of his ex-wife, Kaleena Leben, in San Diego back in June.

According to a report to an ABC affiliate in San Diego, the 35-year old Leben will be required to report for custody on Sept. 21. In addition to the jail time and probation, Leben will also need to complete a 52-week domestic violence class, and he has been ordered to stay away from his ex-wife for the next 10 years.

“This case is a very serious incident,” the  Deputy District Attorney Matthew Dix said in the report. “[Leben] broke into her home while she was there. He had a loaded gun on him. He also brought to the property an AR-15, which is an illegal assault weapon. So, it’s a very scary incident for our victim and it’s also important to let people like him know that these kind of things are going to be punished within our community and I think custody time was appropriate punishment in this case.”

Leben, who retired in 2013 after his loss to Uriah Hall at UFC 168, was a cast member on the first edition of The Ultimate Fighter reality show.

Upon receiving his sentence, Leben posted a note on his Twitter account.

I just remembered a joke my mom told me once what kind of bird doesn’t fly answer a jailbird LOL everything happens for reason right

A heavyweight bout between contenders Stipe Miocic and Ben Rothwell is being looked at for UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin, Ireland.

Though the bout is not official yet, that the fight is being targeted to take place at the 3Arena (formerly O2 Arena) on Oct. 24, sources told MMA Fighting. Currently Miocic is ranked as the No. 3 heavyweight in the media-driven UFC rankings, while Rothwell sits at No. 6.

After going just 2-3 during a five-fight stretch between 2009-2013 — including a loss to Velasquez at UFC 104 — the 33-year old Rothwell has won three straight fights to come crashing back into contention. All three of his victories were finishes, with his last two — against Alistair Overeem (TKO) and Matt Mitrione (submission, gogoplata) — coming in the first round.

The 32-year old Miocic, meanwhile, has won four of his past five fights, with his only loss coming against Junior dos Santos in December. In his last outing, Miocic was able to outlast Mark Hunt, finishing him memorably via TKO in the fifth round at UFC Fight Night 65 in Adelaide, Australia.

UFC Fight Night 76 will feature a headlining bout between lightweights Dustin Poirier and Irishman Joe Duffy.
