WEC 47 attendance could top out at about 8,500, top-five mark possible

Although attendance figures for Saturday’s WEC 47 event won’t come close to the totals its sister promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, registered in recent years, they could still rank among the best in the promotion’s history.

The UFC first ventured to Nationwide Arena Columbus, Ohio, in 2007 for UFC 68, which set a still-standing U.S. MMA attendance record with 19,049.

The modified seating configuration for WEC 47, though, will limit the event to approximately 8,500 spectators, WEC officials today told MMAjunkie.com.

Confident he’ll beat Jens Pulver, WEC 47’s Javier Vazquez ready for share of spotlight

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Javier Vazquez knows very well that a victory over Jens Pulver at Saturday’s WEC 47 event could do wonders for his career.

After an 0-2 start in the WEC with a pair of razor-thin split-decision losses, Vazquez could secure his WEC future, topple a veteran, and get vital TV exposure all in one fell swoop.

However, don’t assume Vasquez is some starry-eyed prospect who’s simply honored to fight the former UFC champ. The 32-year-old veteran has fought professionally for 12 years, and at time, was every bit the up-and-comer Pulver was.
