Dana White: Tito Ortiz’s recent antics, Mark Coleman confrontation nothing surprising

After hinting at a possible move to a new organization for more than a year, Tito Ortiz didn’t sign with EliteXC, Strikeforce, Affliction Entertainment, the AFL or any of his other rumored suitors.

Instead, Ortiz signed a new deal with the UFC in late 2009, headlined UFC 106 in November and then accepted a coaching gig opposite Chuck Liddell on the upcoming 11th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Ortiz already has ruffled some feathers with a claim that Liddell recently needed an intervention for a supposed drinking problem. He also caused an odd scene on Saturday with his post-UFC 109 cageside shouting match with Mark Coleman. But UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com it’s just the nature of doing business with Ortiz.

UFC 109’s Melvin Guillard says he’s a new fighter following Team Jackson affiliation

Following a hard-fought decision victory over Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Ronys Torres at Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless” event, Melvin Guillard said he now considers himself a fighter with a 1-0 career record.

So why would the 26-year-old turn his back on the past eight years and 33 other career bouts?

It’s simple, Guillard. He’s a different fighter now that he’s hooked up with trainer Greg Jackson. Even UFC president Dana White sees a drastically different future for the promising lightweight.

Dana White: UFC 109 winner Randy Couture back in light-heavyweight title picture

Randy Couture is back in the thick of the light-heavyweight title picture.

After coming out of retirement for a title run in the heavyweight division, Couture has now posted back-to-back wins at light heavyweight with his submission victory over Mark Coleman in the main event of Saturday’s “UFC 109: Relentless” event.

Now, UFC president Dana White said Couture’s future will be determined by a pair of upcoming and high-profile 205-pound fights – both of which have title implications.

UFC 109 winner Paulo Thiago plans to keep his day job in Brazil’s special police

LAS VEGAS – UFC welterweight Paulo Thiago (13-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) considers fighting a vacation from his day job as a special forces police officer in Brasilia, Brazil.

But as stressful as that job might seem, and as quick as his rise up the UFC ranks has been, he’s not going to give up one for the other.

“I’m going to keep going,” Thiago told MMAjunkie.com on Saturday after defeating Mike Swick at UFC 109. “I love to do both. My squad gives me all the support I need.”
