The UFC was ” was disappointed to learn that Jones was cited for several traffic offenses last week, as well as concerned by the nature and tone of portions of the conversation between Jones and the citing officer.”
The UFC has issued a statement in response to Jon Jones‘ legal woes in New Mexico.
From their web site: “UFC respects the decision made today by Judge Michael E. Martinez in New Mexico Second Judicial District Court regarding the probation terms of the case involving Jon Jones.
“The organization was disappointed to learn that Jones was cited for several traffic offenses last week, as well as concerned by the nature and tone of portions of the conversation between Jones and the citing officer.
“Still, UFC respects Jones’ right to contest those traffic citations in court and receive a fair hearing on the matter.
“Jones’ scheduled bout on April 23 will proceed as planned, however, Jones understands that the UFC expects him to fully cooperate with the terms of his probation as set forth by Judge Martinez.”
Jones will still face Daniel Cormier for the UFC Light Heavyweight title on April 23 at UFC 197 in Las Vegas.

Whew. Daniel Cormier can rest easy that he’ll get to defend his belt against the ex-champ on April 23.
Judge Michael Martinez has ruled that former UFC champ Jon Jones will be able to fight at UFC 197 in Las Vegas on April 23. Jones spent a night in jail for probation violation after being pulled over and accused of drag racing.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney had sought “to have Jones’ probation revoked and then reinstated with three new conditions: Jones completes a driver improvement course; he agrees to a curfew; and he enrolls in and completes an anger management counseling course” according to MMA Fighting.
The judge declined to impose a curfew after his defense argued it would impede his ability to travel to Las Vegas for the title fight. However Jones is not permitted to drive without the permission of his probation officer, and Martinez warned Jones that another court appearance “won’t end well” for him.
Jon has been released following a night in jail.
Jones is on probation after a conviction for a hit-and-run last year that resulted in injuries to a pregnant woman and Jones being stripped of his UFC title. UFC 197 will mark his return to the Octagon.
