As a long time mma fanatic, not only have I found a way to make mma fights increase in excitement, I have also found that I can make some nice chunk of change Betting on MMA fights as well. With the use of online MMA sportsbooks and my knowledge and experience of watch thousands of mixed martial arts contests, I have turned a pastime into a sweet revenue generator. If you are new to mma betting, here are some basic rules that I live by:

1. Look for the unknown underdogs

There are a lot of hidden gems in mixed martial arts. Brett Rogers was a huge underdog vs Andrei Arlovski, yet many mma enthusiasts were aware of his potential and “The Pitbull’s” tendancy to go down easy. Scout fighters in the minor promotions such as Bellator, Maximum, and other regional fight leagues. Once they make their major promotion debut, bet away.

2. Forget the overwhelming Crowd Favourites

Some popular fighters go into a fight as an overwhelming favourite, and remember anything can happen once your inside the ring or octagon. Why risk so much for such a small payout? All the nuthuggers will be betting on that fighter, see point 1 and win big.

3. Find the best odds
Nowadays there are plenty of online sportsbooks that allow you to bet on mma. I would recommend keeping money on a handful of them, and keep yourself updated on which sportsbook has the best odds in your favour for that particular fight. Also keep in mind that odds are usually better the earlier you make the bet. You might miss out on information in between, but that’s a chance you take in locking in early.

You can get more MMA betting information at my websites MMA Betting.net. Hopefully this will help you make more money on your fight nights.

265 lbs.: Antonio Minotauro Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez

Odds: (Nogueira +105 / Velasquez -135) at Sportsbook.com

In the main event, former PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion and UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will face undefeated powerhouse wrestler Cain Velasquez with a likely shot at an Interim Heavyweight Title on the line.  Nogueira is one of the most legendary Heavyweights in the sport’s history, but Velasquez has looked completely unstoppable thusfar in his career, so this has the makings of an incredible fight.

Velasquez, a Junior College national wrestling champion and two-time Division 1 All-American, is one of the most dynamic and explosive wrestlers in the Heavyweight division.  In his last fight, against highly-regarded opponent Ben Rothwell, Velasquez put on a clinic, taking down Rothwell at will and unloading vicious ground and pound on him.  In the standup game, Velasquez is still somewhat raw, but makes up for his lack of technique with a surplus of knockout power.  The big question mark for Velasquez going into this fight is his submission defense, which has never really been tested.  Nogueira is one of the most prolific submission experts in the sport’s history, so Velasquez needs to make sure that his submission defense is on point if he wants to keep his record unblemished.

Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera is, inarguably, one of the greatest Heavyweights in the history of the sport.  A submission wizard with a very effective technical boxing game and a legendary ability to take a beating and still pull out wins, Noguiera has fought better opposition than any Heavyweight in history, and has still amassed a very favorable record.  After a disappointing KO loss to Frank Mir, the first in his career, Noguiera rebounded instantly, laying a beatdown on UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture in a shockingly one-sided fight.  Against Velasquez, Noguiera will probably have an advantage in terms of technical boxing, but will be totally overmatched in punching power.  He is clearly the superior submission fighter of the two, but Velasquez has unstoppable takedowns and is vicious from top position, and Nogueira is getting too old to keep taking the kinds of beatings he used to, as Frank Mir showed.

This is a ridiculously close fight on paper, a fact that is borne out by the betting lines.  Noguiera has the huge edge in experience and level of competition, and possesses the kind of jiu-jitsu that can catch anyone, much less a novice like Velasquez.  On the other hand, despite the ridiculous level of competition he has faced, Noguiera has never fought a wrestler of Velasquez’s caliber, or anything close to it.  If I had to choose with a gun to my head, I would say that Velasquez’s power and wrestling will be enough to bruise Noguiera up on the ground.

Prediction: Cain Velasquez via third round ground & pound T/KO.

  • That said, at  Sportsbook.com Odds, Noguiera is actually a (+105) underdog, and considering his submission skills and Velasquez’s relative inexperience in that realm, those are odds that I would not pass up, at all.  All things being even I’d take Velasquez, but any time you can bet on one of the two greatest Heavyweights of all time as an underdog, you do it, so hit up Sportsbook.com Is one of a few sites that actually have Nogueira as an Underdog.

UFC 110: Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva Prdiction

185 lbs.: Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva

Odds:  (+130 Bisping / -160 Silva) at Sportsbook.com

In the semi-main event, MMA legend Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva makes his first ever appearance at Middleweight, where he will take on Ultimate Fighter winner and top contender Michael “The Count” Bisping.  Wanderlei is at the tail end of his career, but has still shown flashes of the offensive brilliance that made him one of the most feared and respected fighters in the world.  Bisping, for his part, is coming off a dominant victory over Denis Kang and has cemented himself as a top figure in the 185 pound scene.

There is no fighter on Earth with a highlight reel to match Wanderlei Silva’s.  A Muay Thai wrecking machine, Silva’s power, technique, and aggression made him one of the most dominant Light Heavyweights on the planet, with a slew of brutal wins against top competition.  Unfortunately, years of brutal fights and fighting above his weight have caught up with him, and he is not the same unstoppable freak he was at his prime.  Even so, he is a powerful striker who is great from the clinch and has an incredibly underrated jiu-jitsu game.  He may have lost a step, but he hasn’t lost any of his ruthless aggression, and he has the skills to bulldoze Bisping out of the gate if he isn’t careful.  A start like he had against Kang could prove Bisping’s end against Wanderlei’s striking and pressure.

Bisping, who captured championships in Cage Warriors and Cage Rage before winning the Ultimate Fighter Season Three title, has become one of the most successful fighters in UFC, with his only two losses coming to former champions in Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson.  Originally a kickboxer and jiu jitsu artist, Bisping still has those skills but has added a very effective wrestling and ground and pound attack to his game, making him a very dangerous and well-rounded opponent.  The most important thing for Bisping in this fight is going to be his striking defense.  He has the skills to hurt Wanderlei on the feet, to take him down, and to hurt him on the mat, but he is a notoriously slow starter and if he gets clipped like he did against Kang, Wanderlei has the kind of style that could easily swarm him under and hand him his third career loss.

I think Bisping’s wrestling is going to be a deciding factor, which is interesting since Bisping never wrestled a day in his life before becoming an MMA fighter.  His skills have grown leaps and bounds, though, and he has developed into a deadly ground and pound fighter with a very active top game.  If this turns into a boxing match, he may will beat Silva on the feet, but if Silva pushes the pace too hard, Bisping has the skills to take him down.  I expect him to do just that eventually, and to put on another ground and pound clinic to earn a T/KO victory.

Prediction:  Michael “The Count” Bisping via second round T/KO.

  • Bet on Bisping @+130 underdog for the win.
