An American Psycho in Australia -Stephan Bonnar is back

Chuck Mindenhall, UFC – Not to cue the violins or anything, but Stephan Bonnar hasn’t won a fight in the Octagon since UFC 77 in October of 2007—or 33 cards, a change in Presidential administrations and 439 days ago (numbers based as of February 20, 2010, when he fights Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 110 in Australia). That’s when he beat his friend Eric “Red” Schafer with a ruthless ground-and-pound assault. It’s been tough sledding since that night in Cincinnati for one of the sport’s most popular figures.

Is 2010 The Year Cigano Takes Over?

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC – 11 professional fights. That’s all it’s taken for Brazil’s Junior Dos Santos to soar into the UFC heavyweight title picture. But if you think the 25 (soon to be 26) year old from Santa Catarina is about to start believing the glowing reviews for his four UFC finishes of Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop and Gilbert Yvel, think again.

The Curious Case of Phillipe Nover

Rhett Butler, UFC – On the night of September 16, 2009, within the bowels of the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Phillipe Nover was ready to do battle with Sam Stout. That UFC Fight Night card should have been named “Rising Stars” due to the caliber of up and coming talent on the card and the main event of Melvin Guillard vs. Nate Diaz. However, the perfectly matched lightweight bout between Nover and Stout would never occur.

Ryan Bader hoping to breathe easy Down Under

Chuck Mindenhall, UFC – At UFC 102 in Portland, Oregon, this past August, Ryan Bader was backstage helping his Arizona Combat Sports teammate Aaron Simpson get ready for Ed Herman. In the same dressing room, not ten feet away, Keith Jardine was readying for his fight with Thiago Silva, slamming his feet into pads held by Trevor Wittman. They walked around each other a dozen times. Both were zeroed in on their tasks at hand, peaceably sharing a small space for a couple of hours—in fact, neither showed the slightest hint that the other even existed.
