UFC veteran and Shark Fights light-heavyweight champion Trevor Prangley (23-6-1) will step back into a Strikeforce cage on Jan. 29th at the upcoming Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg event to meet submission champ Roger Gracie (3-0).
Prangley wants to put in a good performance against Gracie as it’s the last fight on his Strikeforce contract and a victory would help improve his status at the negotiating table when it comes to the top mma promotions.
He recently defeated former UFC vet Keith Jardine at last September’s Shark Fights 13 show in the main event, earning a split decision over the “Dean of Mean.” The win helped to set him back on track after going 0-1-1 with Strikeforce in the past year, losing to Tim Kennedy by submission in June and earning a draw with Karl Amoussou at a February Challengers show.
“It’s always great when you get another opportunity. It’s the last fight on my contract and I just need to get out there and perform. It’s going to be a really tough fight for me. He’s undefeated. He doesn’t know how to lose yet, so I’m curious to see how I’ll fare against him. I think it will be a competitive fight on both of our sides…Now, I’m just thinking about this fight and am not even considering what’s coming next. All I care about is the fight that’s in front of me at that time in my life…The fans should come check us out. I think it’s going to be a good fight and Roger is going to take the first loss of his career. With fights that people don’t think I have a chance in, I’ve always managed to pull it off somehow, and I don’t intend to stop now.”
