Former UFC light heavyweight champ, and the original “Ultimate Fighter”, Forrest Griffin (18-6) has come to the realization that he isn’t getting any better, and this is as good as he gets.
He came to this epiphany when he realized that fighting wasn’t fun for him anymore, but it isn’t to say that he isn’t motivated to fight anymore, he is doing it now so he can get paid and live the life he’s come to enjoy.
Griffin posted this realization in part of his UFC 134 blog at Yahoo! Sports discussing his upcoming re-match with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
“It quit being fun when I realized I wasn’t getting better. I’m plateauing or almost getting worse sometimes. One of the essential elements to have in this is your perceived expectation of the future, and I’m a painful realist, so I realized that I’m not going to get better; this is it. It’s only gonna get worse from here on and you fight as much as you can, you fight until you don’t have it anymore, and then you fight a couple more times after that.”
Griffin and Rua are set to meet in the co-main event of UFC 134 on August 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
