Even though Murilo “Ninja” Rua’s (20-10-1) brother, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, is the UFC light heavyweight champ, it doesn’t offer him any advantage in securing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. For “Ninja” that is fine, he’s going out to earn his way into the promotion by winning fights.
“I see it from a positive perspective, but I’m fighting and doing my job. If one day I’ll fight on Ultimate it’ll only be a consequence. I’ll wait and it’ll come. It’s a great division, there’re great fighters, it’s really hard, but I’ll try to be on my best to go for the belt. That’s my dream, my goal, and I want to deserve it. On the right time, I’ll join Ultimate’s cast”.
His next bout is set for Oct. 23rd in Canada at the upcoming W-1 New Ground event against Rory Boughton at middleweight. Rua has run a four fight win streak fighting at 205 lbs, and 185 lbs in his last win. He defeated Jeremy May at last July’s Impact FC 2 – The Uprising: Sydney event earning a first round submission via guillotine choke.
“Ninja” has plans to two more times this year, once in November in the States, and in December at a Bitetti Combat event.
