I’m really glad the boys at Submission Radio transcribed this interview for me because I nearly embarrassed myself (yet again). Israel Adesanya said “ISIS” as in the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and not “ICEE’s” … which I thought, “Wow, what a great suggestion, those are super refreshing and provide lots of simple carbs for that post-fight recovery.”
I should also mention that I have not left my house in 13 years and have no running water.
Anyway, Adesanya appears to be incensed by the idea that Jon Jones can help middleweight titleholder, Robert Whittaker, prepare for the striking of “The Last Stylebender,” who will attempt to unify the straps in the UFC 243 main event this October in Melbourne, Australia.
Perhaps terrorist training would be more apropos?
“Let him. Fuck, this is what I mean. Get fucking ISIS,” Adesanya said. “Bring whoever has to help you get ready for this fight, cause they can’t save you. No one can save you. If he thinks Jon Jones is gonna help him – look at Jon Jones’ striking. Don’t even insult me. Come on, man. Wrestling, yes. Get Jon Jones to help you with your wrestling.”
Jones, who currently rules the 205-pound roost, has agreed to help “The Reaper” prepare for UFC 243 after getting into an online spat with the interim middleweight champion. Sure, they’re separated by weight classes, but champion vs. champion “super fights” are all the rage these days.
Depending on what lane you’re in.
“Fucking, Rob, shoot on me,” Adesanya begged. “Please, come on. No one’s got me down and kept me down. You’ve done it to Romero, you might be the one. I advise him to shoot on me. Try to keep me down. Fucking hell. Just, I advise him to shoot. I won’t Jorge Masvidal him, but I advise him to shoot. Straight up shoot, then wrestle fuck me.”
Adesanya (17-0) has easily outstruck his opponents in all six fights inside the Octagon; however, he’s also been susceptible to the takedown, getting put to the mat in four of his six fights. Whether or not the 20-4 Whittaker can (or chooses to) follow that path remains to be seen.
