Former UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo says Conor McGregor refusing to do media for UFC 200 proves he has a weak mentality.
Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has some criticism for the current titleholder, Conor McGregor.
McGregor was slated to rematch Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200 this July but was pulled from the card last week for refusing to do media obligations contractually required by the UFC’s parent company, Zuffa. McGregor stated that he did not want to fly to the United States to go on a three-city media tour promoting UFC 200 because he felt he needed to focus more on his training.
Aldo, who was present at a UFC 200 media tour in New York earlier this week, says that the Irishman not making himself available for media obligations shows a hole in his mentality.
“That proves how weak he is,” Aldo told ESPN. “I don’t see him as an athlete, I don’t respect him. In my opinion, he’s weaker than everything he always said.”
Aldo faces Frankie Edgar in a rematch for the interim featherweight title at UFC 200. The blockbuster event takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9 and earlier this week, Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones II was announced as the new headliner.
