Andre Pederneiras says that Jose Aldo is not in shape to take a five round fight on short notice, even though Aldo himself said in the past he would be willing to rematch Conor McGregor anytime and anywhere.

Jose Aldo said he would be willing to take on Conor McGregor at any time, even if there was no title on the line, and that he was training non-stop in case an opportunity to rematch “The Notorious” became available. But, with just such a chance infront of him, his coach Andre Pederneiras told Combate 10 days notice was just not enough time for him to take on McGregor again.

Dana White called  me in the middle of the night telling me what had happened and asking me if Aldo was in shape to fight. I said he wasn’t and that there was no time. Unfortunately, he would not be ready to fight the next week.”

Pederneiras explained that even though Aldo was coming to the gym constantly, he wasn’t training hard enough for a rematch with McGregor, or for a five round fight, for that matter.

“Aldo has been going to the gym to train, but he is not prepared to fight five rounds. It’s no use to go with an athlete unconditioned to fight until the end of the fifth round in a hard fight.”

Jose Aldo was knocked out in 13 seconds by Conor McGregor at UFC 194 last December. There’s no word yet on when he will return to the Octagon, but it won’t be at UFC 196. In the meantime, Conor McGregor is still without an opponent now that Rafael dos Anjos has had to pull out of their superfight.
