Welterweights Alex Oliveira and Mickey Gall will meet in Virginia, on February 29.
An intriguing welterweight bout was just officially added to the upcoming UFC Norfolk card, in February. Per MMA Fighting, seasoned veteran Alex Oliveira will take on submission specialist Mickey Gall in a fight where ‘Cowboy’ could be fighting for his contract.
Currently on a three-fight losing skid, Alex Oliveira (19-8-1-2 NC) could be cut if he doesn’t get past Gall. In his previous outings, the 31-year-old dropped unanimous decisions to both Mike Perry and Nicolas Dalby, while being tapped out to Gunnar Nelson before both defeats. Cowboy’s last win dates back to September 2018, a TKO win over Carlo Pedersoli Jr.
In a different situation than his opponent, Mickey Gall (6-2) will look to put together a new streak in the Octagon. In his last outing, the 27-year-old bested Salim Touahri via unanimous decision, but was TKO’d by another veteran in Diego Sanchez, just prior to the victory, back in March.
Now, Alex Oliveira is scheduled to take on Mickey Gall at UFC Fight Night 169, in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 29. So far, no main events were officially announced for the card.
This news comes seven months after Oliveira was accused of assault by his ex-wife. Oliveira was reportedly wanted by police in Rio after claims that he punched his ex-wife and then, while intoxicated, sped away on a motorcycle with his five-month-old child. Oliveira’s manager Alex Davis called those initial reports “inaccurate” (per The Score).
Bloody Elbow has asked the UFC if any investigation as conducted into these claims. A response was not provided at this time of writing.
