Confirming plans to feature at a now-slated UFC 312 card in Syndey next year, Alexander Volkanovski has revealed he plans to confront the victor of this month’s featherweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway inside the Octagon after UFC 308 — hoping to lure the victor into a rematch.
Volkanovski, a former undisputed featherweight champion and prior pound-for-pound number one, has been out of action since he suffered a stunning second round knockout defeat to the above-mentioned Topuria in the main event of UFC 298 earlier this annum.
Dropping his first defeat at the featherweight limit in the process, Volkanovski, who entered the bout off the back of a devastating lightweight title fight rematch loss to Islam Makhachev the prior October — confirmed plans to feature in a title fight as soon as February, with the promotion hosting a UFC 312 flagship card ‘Downunder’ once more.
Alexander Volkanovski plans to confront UFC 308 main event winner in Abu Dhabi
And weighing up his chances of luring Topuria into a rematch should the unbeaten striker defeat Holloway at UFC 308 — whom Volkanovski has thrice beaten himself, the New South Wales staple has revealed he plans on confronting the winner in Abu Dhabi later this month.
“Oh, of course, you know what I mean?” Alexander Volkanovski said of entering the Octagon following the UFC 308 main event during an interview with Submission Radio. “Especially when you’re pretty much guaranteed. There’s only very little things that could get in the way. I doubt that happens so, get me in there. Let’s amp it up and call the date here [in Australia] in February as well.”
I’m in a position now where I want to fight in Sydney and I want fights that excite me,” Alexander Volkanovski explained. “Fighting for a belt excites me. Fighting some contender just for content? Flat. Not exciting. What excites me? Money, big fights, and gold.”
