Amanda Nunes: ‘I knew I could beat Ronda Rousey since I saw her first fight’

Amanda Nunes has been confident about her chances against Ronda Rousey all along.

When she entered the UFC in 2013, Amanda Nunes had already set her sights on Ronda Rousey, who at the time was the woman to beat. Three years later, “The Lioness” has managed to climb up the women’s 135-pound ladder in noteworthy fashion.

More impressively, Nunes was able to accomplish what she had set out to do. But apparently, the results of UFC 207’s main event fight was something she had foreseen years ago.

“I knew I could beat Ronda Rousey since I saw her first fight,” Nunes confidently said in an interview with TMZ Sports.

Rousey made her way into the UFC just months before Nunes did and immediately, the former Olympic judoka ran through the next six opponents that were put in front of her. Nunes, however, was never impressed by those string of victories against the likes of Miesha Tate, Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano, and Liz Carmouche, to name a few.

“I don’t know how Ronda Rousey went too far away in this division, honest,” Nunes said. “I don’t understand why those girls lost to Ronda Rousey. I knew since my first fight in the UFC (that) I can beat Ronda Rousey. But of course I needed to take my time, and then let life put everything together.”
