These aren’t the droids nominees you’re looking for.
Disney wants nothing to do with Gina Carano the person.
Gina Carano the actress, however … well, that’s a different story. Or maybe Disney doesn’t want to miss an opportunity to score another Emmy award for The Mandalorian, the LucasFilm series on Disney+ that reinvigorated a tired Star Wars franchise.
The folks at Cnet recently shared a “consideration” poster aimed at Emmy voters, which included Carano under the category of “supporting actress.” Joining her from The Mandalorian are Pedro Pascal (lead actor) and Giancarlo Esposito (supporting actor), among others.
Carano rose to fame as a trail blazing MMA fighter for Strikeforce but retired from competition in the wake of her “Cyborg” loss in late 2010. “Conviction” went on to score sizzling roles in Hollywood blockbusters like Fast & Furious 6 before landing a recurring spot on The Mandalorian.
A spot she lost after Season 2, thanks to her “abhorrent and unacceptable” posts on social media. I guess her controversial take on the current political climate was enough to cost her employment, but not the Emmy statuette.
It’s true what they say, there’s no business like show business.
