Anderson Silva offers apology to Dana White over ‘lack of respect’ comments

Earlier in October, Anderson Silva voiced his feelings on the UFC’s disrespect for Brazilian fighters, himself included. But, after a sharp rebuke from Dana White, he’s climbing down a bit.

Anderson Silva may not be feeling the love of the UFC right now, but it looks like he wants to make it work. Back in early October, Silva spoke to Brazilian media outlet UOL. He was speaking about the recent fallout between Jose Aldo and the UFC and suggested that Brazilian fighters suffer from a serious lack of respect in the organization.

“I was really disappointed with the lack of respect from the UFC towards Brazilian athletes,” Silva said, speaking to his feelings that the UFC wasn’t giving him enough credit for stepping in against Daniel Cormier on short notice at UFC 200.

In a recent interview on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak For Yourself” however, UFC president Dana White took issue with Anderson Silva’s statements, saying that while other fighters may have cause to complain, “Anderson Silva is not one of them.” He added that Silva “is a guy who has been far from mistreated.”

Whether “the Spider” has decided that his initial take was more emotion than fact, or if he’s just seen that discretion is the better part of valor, when called for comment on Dana White’s response by TMZ, Anderson gave the president a full apology:

“Definitely, I need to say sorry for everything that happened now in UFC,” Anderson said, “because Dana White is Dana White.”
