Anderson Silva sends heartfelt message to Jose Aldo after tough UFC 212 loss – ‘You are a great hero’
Jose Aldo suffered just the second loss of his storied Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career this past weekend (June 3, 2017), getting knocked out by Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (full video highlights here).
The loss was a difficult one for Aldo — whose only other defeat inside the Octagon came against Conor McGregor back at UFC 194 — as the Brazilian bomber had just won back his strap by defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200.
And while Aldo has received an enormous amount of support from his fans following his defeat, former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva took to Instagram to show his own love and encouragement to his long-time friend.

My brother. You are much bigger than any battle, your story gives us the full assurance that you are a great hero, a great champion, I am and I will always be your fan, brother. What you have most precious goes far beyond. Of course we were all rooting for you and for your victory, but do not cover yourself or let anyone charge you brother, because you are fantastic in what you do and do with love and with your heart, do not forget who you are and how much you make a difference in this sport, you have changed the lives of many people, you are cause for victory and overcoming by the example that has become, always keep your head up God is always in control. You are a great champion, no one can take this story from you, no one; Battle is won and other losses, but never war. You are a giant, did not come to this world by chance you are Ze Aldo. Our Ze Aldo. Do not forget brother, GOD bless you always warrior. That is what we are to the end of our days, and those like us my friend, very few.”
Indeed, if anyone knows just what it’s like to lose a championship strap after an extended period of dominance it’s Anderson, as he coughed up his 185-pound strap to Chris Weidman back at UFC 162. Since that defeat, Silva has gone one to amass a rather unimpressive 1-3 record.
Aldo released a statement announcing his intent to return stronger than ever, though he didn’t give a timetable for his expected return to action.
