Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) clearly has no idea what to do with former 265-pound champion Andrei Arlovski, which is probably why he’s fighting fellow struggling heavyweight, Ben Rothwell, at the promotion’s upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event in San Antonio, Texas.
That’s according to a report from ESPN.
Their July 20 showdown will serve as the rematch to their 2008 contest, which saw “Big Ben” go down in a big heap against the rampaging “Pitbull.” That fight wasn’t close and both fighters were in their respective primes, so I’m not sure why we needed to see this again 11 years later.
Arlovski (27-18, 2 NC), who turned 40 back in February, is a putrid 2-8 dating back to his decision win over Frank Mir in late 2015. The 37 year-old Rothwell (36-11), meanwhile, returned from his drug-test suspension to lose a unanimous decision to Blagoy Ivanov back in March.
Also throwing hands at UFC on ESPN 4 will be longtime veterans Liz Carmouche and Roxanne Modafferi, who collide at 125 pounds, while Walt Harris takes on Aleksei Oleinik in heavyweight action.
Stay tuned for more San Antonio fight card updates in the coming weeks.
