Bob Arum says he is willing to keep himself out of the picture, just to make the Manny Pacquiao-Conor McGregor match happen.
Last week, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao bared his intentions to fight Conor McGregor in a boxing match. However, it is a business venture that UFC president Dana White is not willing to be involved in, mainly because of Top Rank Promotions head honcho Bob Arum.
“Listen, I love Manny Pacquiao. But I don’t love Bob Arum,” White said. “You can tell Arum to save his money and not make any calls over here because we aren’t doing business with him.”
The 84-year-old boxing promoter recently spoke to the TMZ cameras, where he gave the green light to make the match happen, even if he is not included in the deal.
“I don’t have to be involved,” Arum said. “I ain’t getting in the ring. But that’s an easy fight for Manny, and I would love for that fight to happen.”
“(The ball’s) in their court,” he continued. “If the only impediment to Manny Pacquiao fighting Conor McGregor is because Dana doesn’t like me, then I won’t be around. I would give Manny the right and the permission to fight Conor McGregor any time the money is right for Manny.”
Arum had always looked down on the idea of pitting a boxer against an MMA fighter and vice versa, going by the logic that the fighter doing the transition would expectedly be on the losing end. Which is why he says he completely understands the reason behind Pacquiao intention to fight the UFC star.
“Yeah, sure, Manny Pacquiao would like to fight Conor McGregor in boxing,” Arum said. “Any fighter would like to fight Conor McGregor, because they’d knock him out.”
