Ben Askren takes a dig at Colby Covington following the news that he has accepted a fight with Robbie Lawler rather than a title shot against Kamaru Usman.
Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington won’t be fighting reigning champ Kamaru Usman for the official welterweight title anytime soon.
Earlier this week it was reported that Covington, who was thought to be next in line for a title shot, would face former teammate Robbie Lawler in a headlining bout at UFC Newark on August 3.
Shortly after ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the matchup on Monday, former ONE FC and Bellator welterweight titleholder Ben Askren took to twitter to take a dig at Covington.
Well guess it is time to say told you so. https://t.co/RqZGtvQbMm

“Well guess it is time to say told you so,” Askren posted in response to Okamoto’s tweet.
‘Funky’ also called ‘Chaos’ a ‘dumbass’ for believing he was actually going to challenge Usman for the title.
Hey @ColbyCovMMA …. told you dumbass. Listen to me next time.

Askren, who made his Octagon debut earlier this year at UFC 235, submitting former champ Lawler with a bulldog choke, is expected to face Jorge Masvidal in a number one contenders bout at UFC 239. The PPV takes place next month, July 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
