Famed trainer Shawn Tompkins passed away this past Sunday, August 14, in his sleep. An autopsy, on Monday, revealed that the TapouT trainer died of a heart attack.
Tompkins brother-in-law, longtime friend, and business partner, UFC lightweight Sam Stout, revealed the cause of death on Tuesday to the London Free Press.
“I don’t know what to say,” Stout says. “It’s not supposed to be happen to a healthy 37-year-old person. Who would think he had to get checked out for that?”
Tompkins was in his native Ontario, Canada to help prepare his friend Chris Horodecki for his upcoming September fight.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Stout and his sister Emile, Tompkins widow.
Fans can offer their own condolences by signing an online guestbook, which was set up by the AMR Group, who represents Tompkins.
