The British based BAMMA promotion announced a middleweight title bout as the headliner for their upcoming BAMMA 6 event, which is set for May 21 at Wembley Arena in London, England. Meeting for the BAMMA belt will be Murilo “Ninja” Rua (20-11-1) and British fighter Tom “Kong” Watson (13-4).
“Ninja is without doubt one of the most exciting and top middleweight fighters in the world. I am so excited that this fight will happen in London for the UK fans. I have no doubt this will be a war,” said Watson on the meeting Rua for the title.
Rua, brother to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, has fought at at light heavyweight to middleweight, including one 190 lb catchweight, in his last five matches. His last fight was in October at a Canadian W-1 event in a catchweight bout against Roy Boughton. Rua would lose a unanimous decision ending a four fight win streak. “Ninja” has such names as Robbie Lawler, Denis Kang, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Sergie Kharitonov, Kevin Randleman, and current Strikeforce champ Dan Henderson in the past.
Watson will be defending his BAMMA title for the second time, is coming off a title defense against Alex Reid at a BAMMA 4 event last September. “Kong” earned a unanimous decision in the fight, allowing him to bounce back from a loss to former “TUF” fighter Jesse Taylor at MFC 26 in the same month he defended his title. That loss ended an eight fight win Streak.
