Edson Barboza, and the majority of fans, believe that he beat Dan Ige on Saturday night.
Edson Barboza’s UFC featherweight debut didn’t go according to plan for him. The longtime contender at 155 pounds faced off with Dan Ige, who gave him all he could handle over 15 minutes in Jacksonville on Saturday night. It seems that most media and fans had Barboza taking the close decision. Unfortunately for him, the judges didn’t agree and awarded Ige a split decision victory.
And Barboza isn’t happy about it.
The striking specialist took to Twitter to vent his frustration, saying he wants his win bonus and a fight in a few weeks:
Hey @danawhite @seanshelby the whole word knows that I won that fight! Send me the win bonus and the contract for July, anyone, anywhere, anytime. I will be ready.

Hey @danawhite @seanshelby the whole word (sp) knows that I won that fight! Send me the win bonus and the contract for July, anyone, anywhere, anytime. I will be ready.”
Barboza (20-9, 14-9 UFC) was immediately challenged by another flashy striker that won on that card, Giga Chikadze:
Edson, no disrespect, but I believe you lost the fight to Dan Ige.
You are on 3 fight losing streak and I’m on a 3 fight winning streak , we both strikers and you wouldn’t need to think of my takedowns.
Let’s put a show for the fans!@ufc @danawhite @seanshelby— GIGA CHIKADZE (@giga_chikadze) May 18, 2020
“Edson, no disrespect, but I believe you list the fight to Dan Ige. You are on a 3 fight losing streak and I’m on a 3 fight winning stream, we both strikers and you wouldn’t need to think of my takedowns. Let’s put on a show for the fan! @ufc @danawhite @seanshelby”
That does sound like something a lot of fans would want to see. But the UFC might want to get Barboza back in the win column by facing some lesser competition first. And I wouldn’t count on him getting that win bonus check in the mail any time soon.
