Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, Frank Mir, gave World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) import Brock Lesnar the death penalty rudest of welcomes at the UFC 81 pay-per-view (PPV) event way back in 2008.
With a little help from Steve Mazzagatti.
Lesnar would eventually get his revenge — and defend his UFC title — by smashing and trashing Mir in the UFC 100 main event, which held the PPV record until this “Notorious” Irishman rematched Nate Diaz at UFC 202.
So would Mir be open to a Lesnar rubber match?
“Absolutely,” Mir told MMA Weekly. “I would like to make sure it occurs. Just be patient. I mean, who would have thought I would eventually be able to face Fedor? Brock likes money and I don’t think there’s anybody he could get more pay-per-view buys on than facing me. I feel that fight will still work itself out because of what the financial ramifications are, it just makes sense.”
It doesn’t make sense right now, since Mir competes for Bellator MMA and Lesnar is expected to rejoin UFC at some point later this year. That said, reconnecting with Scott Coker would allow Lesnar to bypass United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
In addition, Mir must first get past former PRIDE FC heavyweight titleholder Fedor Emelianenko at this weekend’s Bellator 198 event in Illinois (more on that here). Perhaps a win by “The Last Emperor” can finally make this dream a reality?
Heck, I won’t count anything out after watching this.
