A rematch never materialized in PRIDE, UFC, or Bellator. Will ONE Championship be any different?
Former UFC middleweight Wanderlei Silva tried to stir up some excitement on Twitter by releasing a fake poster that featured a bunch of fan-friendly match ups, including a rematch between “The Axe Murderer” and longtime nemesis Vitor Belfort.
“The Phenom” was not impressed.
“Wanderlei, my promoter Chatri Sityodtong and my agent are waiting for you and your agent,” Belfort told his bitter rival on Instagram. “I’ll give you some advice: stop posting and start negotiating. Your request has been accepted. Stop posting fake news posters and let’s get down to business.”
The poster in question has since been taken down.
The power-punching Brazilians first went to war at UFC 17.5: “Ultimate Brazil” all the way back in 1998, with “The Phenom” winning by way of first-round technical knockout. They were expected to run it back at UFC 147, but the injury bug took care of those plans.
Belfort is currently signed to ONE Championship while Silva recently entered the world of bareknuckle boxing.
