Check out the results from Bellator 151, where a new challenger emerged at bantamweight.
Bellator 151 wasn’t the most relevant event the promotion has ever put on, but the show managed to end in pleasing fashion and ended with the emergence of a new challenger in the bantamweight divsion.
Here’s how it all went down.
Darrion Caldwell defeated Joe Warren by submission (rear naked choke), 3:23 of round 1
This fight was about wrestling, and Caldwell proved that he had more of it in his back pocket than Warren. He took Warren down early and beat him up, taking the former champion out of his wheelhouse early. Warren did get up, but got brutally suplexed for his troubles and was promptly choked out.
Obviously the biggest win of Caldwell’s career, and should lead to a title shot.
Fernando Gonzalez defeated Gilbert Smith by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
The first round of this important welterweight fight saw both men have their moments, and the round was super close. The second probably leaned Smith, with a grappling advantage to a certain degree. The third was close too, with Gonzalez getting a grappling advantage early and trying to maintain.
In the end, Gonzalez took a split decision and is in a good spot for a title shot.
Bubba Jenkins defeated Goiti Yamauchi via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-27)
Joe Taimanglo def. Sirwan Kakai via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
