MMA: Bellator 221-Chandler vs Pitbull

Patricio Pitbull dominated in the co-main event of Bellator 228 winning a unanimous decision over Juan Archuleta to retain his featherweight title.

Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull successfully defended his title and advanced to the quarter final of the Bellator featherweight grand prix by defeating Juan Archuleta by unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 49-46).

What was the high point of the fight?

Pitbull had a good first round, dropping Archuleta and following up with a big onslaught but “The Spaniard” did a good job of surviving. After a fairy uneventful second round, Pitbull dropped Archuleta again in the third with a straight, and almost wrapped up a guillotine choke at the end of the round.

Archuleta needed to go all-out in the fifth as Pitbull clearly had a few rounds under his belt, but he couldn’t get the better of the Brazilian as Pitbull ended the fight on a strong note, taking Archuleta down in the dying moments.

Where do these two go from here?

The win is Pitbull’s third consecutive defense of his Bellator featherweight title, and he continues to prove he will be a serious contender to win the grand prix overall. After the fight in the draw for the next round, Pitbull had the choice of picking his next opponent, and he will face Pedro Carvalho in the next round.

After winning 17 straight fights, Archuleta suffers just his second loss in a 25-fight career to Pitbull. “The Spaniard” shouldn’t be too disappointed with himself as with wins over the likes of Eduardo Dantas and Ricky Bandejas, it’s clear he’s a legit contender whether he stays at 145-pounds or drops back down to bantamweight for his next fight.

Watch it now, later or never?

It wasn’t the best fight, but watch it to see highlights of Pitbull’s win.
