Douglas Lima was all aces against Rory MacDonald in the Bellator 232 main event, winning back the welterweight title and a cool $1M.

Douglas Lima almost completely shutout Rory MacDonald in the Bellator 232 main event to recapture the welterweight title, win the World Grand Prix, and walk away with a $1,000,000 payday.

What was the high point of the fight?

There weren’t a lot of wow moments in this rematch. Lima ran away with the scorecards this time around, stuffing the takedowns and landing effective strikes throughout. Honestly, the high point of this fight was seeing Lima win a million dollars, as well as the amount of pure class shown by both men on the mic after the match. These guys are excellent ambassadors to the sport and are true embodiments of what it means to be a martial artist.

Where do these two go from here?

Welp, now that the score has been tied at one a piece, perhaps a trilogy bout is in order. Another possible title contender is the longtime MMA vet Jon Fitch, who has gone 5-0-1 in his last six outings. That draw came in his GP match to Rory MacDonald, so he never really lost to get bumped out of the tourney. Another option for Lima might be a rematch with Lorenz Larkin, who is now enjoying a three-fight winning streak. Undefeated contender Yaroslav Amosov is on the rise and could also be a likely test for the re-crowned champion.

As for Rory, a rematch with Fitch makes a lot of sense. They obviously have unfinished business after drawing even, so why not run that one back? Another elite matchup for MacDonald could be against fellow former champ Andrey Koreshkov. The Russian is looking to rebound after dropping a close split decision to Lorenz Larkin earlier this month. It would be an excellent bounce back challenge for both parties.

Watch it now, later or never?

Well, the wow moments were few and far between in this calculated chess match of a fight. You wouldn’t miss much if you never saw this one. Knowing the results is sufficient enough.
