In the main event of Bellator 262, Juliana Velasquez defended her flyweight title against Denise Kielholtz.

Juliana Velasquez defended her flyweight world title at Bellator 262 with a close split decision win against Denise Kielholtz.

It was a good first round for the challenger Kielholtz, who blitzed forward early with some heavy overhands that fell short. ‘Miss Dynamite’ finished the round strong landing a combination of strikes as Velasquez was pressed against the fence.

Velasquez used her size advantage in the second round to start landing her jab and keep Kielholtz at bay. The Brazilian scored the first takedown of the fight in the third round after level changing off a jab from Kielholtz.

The final round was extremely close with Kielholtz landing some good calf kicks and overhands, whilst Velasquez continued to put together combinations off of her jab. The split decision was very much an accurate outcome for the fight, as it was truly too close to call. It’s the first successful defense for Velasquez after winning the belt from Ilima-Lei Macfarlane.

In the co-main event, heavyweight Tyrell Fortune made quick work of Matt Mitrione as he stopped ‘Meathead’ in under two minutes. Fortune landed a takedown and Mitrione appeared to complain to the referee about a clash of heads that went unnoticed. After Fortune landed some heavy unanswered ground and pound, Mitrione tapped to strikes and the fight was over.
