Check out the results and best moments from Bellator 270 in Dublin.
At long last, Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire is a Bellator champion.
In the main event of Bellator 270, the older brother of former two-division champion Patricio Pitbull captured the vacant lightweight belt with a second-round TKO of Ireland’s Peter Queally in front of a raucous turned stunned crowd in Dublin. Patricio vacated the lightweight belt last month to focus on his featherweight title rematch with A.J. McKee, paving the way for his brother and Queally to turn their #1 contender bout into a five-round title affair. Patricky lost to Queally on a cuts stoppage in their previous meeting, but this time around he made sure he’d get the stoppage win and become the first man to finish Queally.
Freire went after Queally’s body early, while Queally went for Patricky’s legs while jabbing upstairs. The hooks by Patricky were a good counter to the high guard of the Irishman. Pitbull tried a combination of punches to the head that were just about all blocked, but he connected on a knee up the middle. It was an aggressive start by the Brazilian in enemy territory but Queally certainly had his moments in the opening round… Freire just had more of them.
An eye poke early in round two prompted the fight to be temporarily stopped, with Patricky needing the doctor to come in. All of this was happening as the crowd was booing and Freire took a couple of minutes to recover. The fight resumed, thus avoiding the disastrous no contest in a title bout. It seemed the eye poke only spurred Freire to be even more aggressive, and a counter right hand dropped Queally and put him on spaghetti legs in an instant. More punches got through and Queally was in all sorts of trouble and couldn’t keep his balance. When he did get up, Patricky landed two more right hands while standing and with Queally not fighting back that prompted referee Kevin MacDonald to stop the bout.
For the 35-year-old Patricky Pitbull, this was his breakthrough moment. He’d lost tournament finals to Marcin Held and Michael Chandler early in his career, was knocked out by Chandler for the lightweight title in 2016, lost the RIZIN lightweight Grand Prix final to Tofiq Musayev in 2019, but now he’s won a world title in his 34th pro fight and his 10th year under the Bellator banner. Presumably he’ll be taking on Brent Primus next in 2022.

Main Card
As for the rest of the main card, Ireland’s James Gallagher was unable to guillotine submission specialist Patrick ‘Patchy’ Mix in previous rounds, and in the third round he ended up tapping to Mix’s guillotine. Mix did miss weight so that takes some sting off of his performance but he continues to show his dangers as a grappler.
Pedro Carvalho also overcame a couple of knockdowns and a generally slow start to defeat fellow former featherweight title challenger Daniel Weichel by unanimous decision. In the main card opener, Ilias Bulaid edged out Georges Sasu by split decision, although the 30-27 in his favor seemed a bit questionable.
