A bantamweight bout scheduled for Saturday nights Bellator Fighting Championships 44 event has been pulled from the evenings action following Friday’s weigh-in results.
Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison (15-9, 1NC) lived up to his name by weighing at 146.5 lbs, a full 11.5 lbs overweight, for his bout with opponent Bryan Goldsby (13-13) who was on weight hitting the scale at 135 lbs.
Sherdog.com learned of the news after the weigh-ins from a source close to the event. No official reason was given for the cancellation, but the site speculated that the reason was likely to the huge difference in weight between the two fighters with Morrison weighing in over the limit for featherweight.
Bellator 44 goes down tonight at 9PM EST (6PM PST) on MTV2 in the U.S., while fans in Canada can catch the live action on TheScore. The venue for tonight’s event takes place at the Caesars Atlantic City Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. The event features a middleweight ‘Superfight’ between Bellator champ Hector Lombard vs. Falaniko Vitale, as well as the Season Four Lightweight Tournament Final between Patricky Freire vs. Michael Chandler.
