Bellator boss Scott Coker wants to talk to free agent Georges St-Pierre

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre insists he’s a free agent and no longer under exclusive contract with the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.

I guess WME | IMG didn’t get the memo.

But if, in fact, “Rush” can fight somewhere outside of the Octagon, then Bellator head cheese Scott Coker will be making a few calls. After all, it’s not like the French-Canadian phenom would be the first Tristar combatant to make the move to Spike TV.

“Well Georges St-Pierre is in a little bit of a grey area, because he’s saying he’s free, ZUFFA’s saying that no, he’s still with us,” Coker told Submission Radio. “I think they’ve got some stuff to work out, and let’s see what happens after that. If he was a complete free agent and everybody felt that he was a free agent, then yeah, we would love to talk to him.”

Assuming St-Pierre is not “done” and still wants to compete.

One fight he hasn’t backed down from is the one against UFC, at least in terms of athlete payouts. “Rush” hooked up with Bjorn Rebney and a few of his fellow disgruntled pals to form the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA) — which then in turn reignited negotiations with his former (?) employer.

Predictions on where St-Pierre will end up in 2017 … and beyond?
