Bellator Dublin results and highlights: Gallagher and ‘MVP’ win quickly

Highlights and results from Bellator Dublin, including a dramatic comeback win for Peter Queally.

Bellator Dublin’s main card produced a trio of stoppages, as fans in Ireland were treated to a fast submission win by prospect James Gallagher over late replacement Roman Salazar. Michael Page predictably knocked Richard Kiely out in the co-main event, but the best finish perhaps came courtesy of SBG’s Peter Queally, who rallied to stop Ryan Scope after it looked like Scope would put Queally away.

James Gallagher def. Roman Salazar via submission (guillotine choke) at :35 of round 1

Well… it’s a 35-second guillotine choke. Not a whole lot for me to describe. Gallagher went for the choke inside the opening 15 seconds, and really the only reason the stoppage was at :35 is because the ref took about nine taps to realize that Salazar had submitted.

Gallagher improved to 6-1 in Bellator and of course celebrated with his SBG Ireland teammate Conor McGregor, whom thankfully didn’t do anything chaotic this time around at a Bellator card.

Michael Page def. Richard Kiely by KO (flying knee) at 2:47 of round 1

This ridiculous mismatch produced the ideal result for “MVP,” which was another knockout win to add to his highlight reel. Kiely had beaten nobody of note in his 3-1 MMA record, and despite talking a big game and selling the fight, he was destined to get wiped out by Page. Some controversy did occur before this flying knee KO, as Dan Miragliotta docked him a point for taunting, and MVP has since accused the veteran referee of calling him a “piece of sh-t” after the win.

Page later called for a rematch with Douglas Lima, who handed him his first loss earlier this year to knock him out of the Bellator welterweight tournament.

Peter Queally def. Ryan Scope via TKO (punches) at 3:07 of round 2

After a good round one, Queally had a disastrous start to round two, getting floored by a head kick and having to fend off Scope’s submission attempts and ground-and-pound. At this point, it looked as if Scope would be on his way to a 10-8 round, but the tables would eventually turn. Scope had exhausted himself looking for the finish, and Queally hurt him with a combination that caused him to sink to the canvas. Queally landed several follow-up strikes to secure a remarkable comeback win in front of a raucous Dublin crowd.

That’s a hell of a way to get your first win under the Bellator banner.
