Undefeated Bellator heavyweight champion Cole ‘The Polar Bear’ Konrad (9-0) is hanging up his gloves and is moving on to become a financial trader.
News of his retirement was posted by the TwinCities.com Pioneer Press on Tuesday in a short sports note among several other sports news.
Former Gophers NCAA heavyweight champion wrestler Cole Konrad, who won $100,000 as defending Bellator mixed martial arts champion, has retired from fighting and taken a job with North Central Trading as a financial trader specializing in milk products.
Konrad was last in action this past May when he finished Season Five tournament winner Eric Prindle with a kimura submission at Bellator 70, forcing the tap in just 60-seconds of the first round.
‘The Polar Bear’ started his pro-mma career back in January 2010 and was picked up by Bellator in May of that year. The former NCAA Division I wrestler would go on to win seven straight with the tournament based promotion, capturing the inaugural Bellator title in October 2010 by submitting Neil Grove.
No word has been released by Bellator officials on Konrad’s retirement, leaving the status of the heavyweight strap up in the air for the time being.
