Bellator Kickboxing: “Budapest” aired on Spike TV last night (Fri., Sept. 23, 2016) live from Budapest, Hungary, featuring a slew of fighters familiar to viewers of Bellator’s hybrid kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) events, culminating in a welterweight title showdown in the main event.
Relatively new to the sport by comparison to his opponent, Zoltan Laszak (11-2) knocked off the champion Karim Ghajji (96-13) via unanimous decision, stunning Ghajji after he won the gold at Bellator Kickboxing: “Torino” in April.
“The Real Deal” Raymond Daniels (12-3) took on local favorite Zsolt Benedek (15-4) in the co-main event. Daniels is known for his highlight reel finishing moves but settled for a unanimous decision win built around his exciting striking.
Denise Kielholtz (45-3) was given a tune up fight against Renata Lantos (5-5), taking home a unanimous decision victory as she prepares for an important rematch with Gloria Peritore in December. The winner of that fight will be Bellator Kickboxing’s inaugural flyweight champion.
Opening the televised card was Alexandru Negrea (10-3) vs. Ali El Ameri (42-11-2). Once again the more experienced fighter didn’t wind up with the favorable outcome, with Ameri dropping a unanimous decision when the action spilled onto the judges’ scorecards. In hindsight, that’s probably not a surprise given Negrea also faced Melvin Manhoef earlier this year and walked away with the victory.
