Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight contenders Ben Rothwell and Junior dos Santos went toe-to-toe earlier today (April 10, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 86 inside Zagreb, Arena in Zagreb, Croatia
And this one lived up to the billing.
Both men came out swinging heavy leather early on, with neither connecting cleanly on the various exchanges, though “Big Ben” was content play the role of the aggressor early on. “Cigano,” meanwhile, played the part of counter-striker quite well, clipping Rothwell with a few shots.
Nothing major, though.
The second round was more of the same early on, as both mean were content to let the bout play out on the feet. as “JDS” went to work on Rothwell’s nose, peppering every chance he got. At the closing of the round though, dos Santos blasted Rothwell with a crushing right hand that had him wobbled.
Rounds three, four and fiver were much of the same, as both men stuck to their guns, hoping to land that one strike to give them the edge. It never came, and the ring side judges awarded “Cigano” a unanimous decision win over “Big Ben,” ending his four-fight win streak.
After putting on a striking clinic, Junior finally got himself back into the win column.
