Benson Henderson will get to fight in his home state next month.
Bellator MMA announced late last week that their October 16th event in Phoenix, Arizona will include a lightweight main card matchup between former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former Bellator lightweight king Brent Primus. Henderson lives in Arizona and has trained for years at the MMA Lab in Glendale.
Henderson (28-10) has lost two straight fights, including a first-round KO in what was the final Bellator appearance of Michael Chandler’s career. The 37-year-old moved back up to welterweight to take on Jason Jackson last November and lost a unanimous decision. Henderson’s last win was a decision over Myles Jury in September 2019.
Primus (10-2) was perhaps a bit unlucky to have dropped a split decision to Islam Mamedov at Bellator 263 in July. The height of his career was winning the Bellator title from Michael Chandler in 2017 after Chandler couldn’t continue due to an ankle injury. Primus lost the rematch and has fought just three times since then, including a pair of submissions over Tim Wilde and Chris Bungard.
Bellator 268 takes place at the Footprint Center includes the semifinals of the light heavyweight grand prix. Reigning champion Vadim Nemkov takes on Anthony Johnson in the main event, with former Bellator champ Ryan Bader battline fellow UFC veteran Corey Anderson in the other semifinal.
