Benson Henderson vs. Michael Johnson targeted for TUF 21 Finale in Florida; venue to be determined

Michael Johnson is close to getting his wish.

According to sources, the UFC is working towards booking Johnson vs. Benson Henderson as the main event of the July 12 “The Ultimate Fighter 21” Finale in Florida. The fight would take place at lightweight.

The organization has yet to finalize a venue to host the event, though, with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood and the BB&T Center in Sunrise the current front-runners to do so. Expect the promotion to make the card and venue official in the coming days.

Johnson (16-8) has won his last four fights in a row. He most recently defeated Edson Barboza via unanimous decision in February and afterwards said he would like to fight Henderson next.

Henderson (22-5), who immediately agreed to the Johnson fight publicly, is coming off one of the most inspiring wins of his career two months ago when he moved up to welterweight to submit prospect Brandon Thatch on just two weeks’ notice.

The card will also feature the finals of TUF 21, which premieres April 22 on Fox Sports 1. This particular season pits 16 welterweights from Florida-based gyms American Top Team and the Blackzilians fighting for a UFC contract, $500,000 to the winning team, and of course, South Florida bragging rights.
