Round 1, Bout 4 Tie-Breaker Results | Brackert via June M. Williams
The votes are now in for the Bloody Elbow’s Baddest Tournament to determine the Greatest MMA Fight of All Time Tie-Breaker Bout we had today. Sunday night at 10pm CST April 5, we will hold Round 1, Bout 5 where #2 seed Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 2 meets the #7 ranked Paulo Costa vs. Yoel Romero. Be sure to watch for the post to vote!
In our most recent bout which was tallied Thursday night, we ended up with a near upset, that ultimately ended in a tie of 19 to 19. The tie-breaker tournament bout just wrapped up awhile ago and the red corner’s #2 ranked, Israel Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum, was in yet another epic nail biter with the #7 seed, T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz. When the dust had settled, it was Adesanya vs. Gastelum that edged out the win with a score of 31 to 25 this time around. Izzy vs. Kelvin now advances in the tournament to face #1 Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald 2 in the next round.
We will be bouncing back to the blue corner for next week’s first matchup in our BE’s BADDEST Tournament Series to figure out what is the single Greatest MMA Fight Of All Time — that one to watch before the world ends. Sunday night’s brawl will start at 10pm CST, April 5th and will feature the #2 seed Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 2 and the #7 ranked Paulo Costa vs. Yoel Romero.
Both of today’s matches went to the scorecards and both ended with somewhat controversial results. One of them was a five-round split draw and the other one was a 15-minute split decision.
#2 Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 2 was for the UFC lightweight belt and took place at UFC 125 on January 1, 2011. Maynard had Edgar in all sorts of trouble for the bulk of that opening round, but Frankie showed off the heart of a champion to survive and find his way back into the fight. The bout was ruled a draw with one judge scoring it for Edgar, one for Maynard, and one seeing it even.
#7 Paulo Costa vs. Yoel Romero was three-round collision at UFC 241 on August 17, 2019. This was a hyper-athletic light heavyweight affair between two guys who looked like action figures come to life. All 15-minutes felt as if at any moment the fight was about end in spectacular fashion.
