The “Tyson vs. Paul” event went down last night (Sat., Nov. 15, 2024) inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, streaming exclusively on Netflix (welp). In the main event of the evening, Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson via unanimous decision (watch highlights) in an embarrassment of a “fight.” In the co-main event, Katie Taylor secured her second win over Amanda Serrano in what proved to be another instant classic between the two world boxing champions (see it again here).

No one expected for Serrano and Taylor to replicate what happened in their first encounter two years ago (watch highlights), with both ladies putting on an instant classic back in April 2022, which many have called the best female boxing match in history. But, that’s just what the two champions did last night, possibly putting on an even better show than their first row. Both ladies had success throughout the fight, with Serrano nearly ending it in the opening frame had she had a few more seconds to work with. Throughout the rest of the co-main event, the two ladies put defense to rest and just started pounding on each other, prompting fight fans to stand on their feet to witness what they were watching. The only negative was the excessive head butts, which busted Serrano wide open (see her grisly gash here). In the end, Taylor once again won on the judges’ scorecards — albeit controversially — but both of their respective stocks went up.

Runners Up: Mario Barrios, Abel Ramos

In another world title fight, Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos went to war, fighting to a split draw after an intense back-and-forth brawl that saw Ramos — the challenger — drop Barrios — the champion — early in the fight. From there, the two men each had their shining moments throughout the 12 rounds. In the end, Barrios was able to retain his Welterweight title thanks to the split draw, but Ramos’ stock also went up after taking it to the champion in his first-ever major world title fight.

Biggest Loser: Jake Paul

Can we stop with this, please? I don’t know how much longer I can take Paul mocking the sport of boxing. I get it, he has worked hard and put in the time and effort to become a decent boxer, but all that “talent” is going to waste fighting 58-year-old former boxing champion who hasn’t competed in 20 years. Paul is a great marketer, influencer and all around troll master because people keep eating it up and tuning in. Indeed, he convinced more than 70,000 people to pack AT&T Stadium — as well as millions of people streaming on Netflix — to see him beat up an old man. He should be proud of that, but also embarrassed thinking he did something by defeating a man who is a shell of his former self. He beat the name “Mike Tyson,” not the boxer we all know and love. Sadly, this won’t be the end of the Jake Paul combat circus because he has so many enablers and, yes, men around him actually telling him he’s doing big things in the sport. I get it, he’s a winner in life because he’s a multi-millionaire, entrepreneur and great businessman and he has skills with his hands, but these boxing events are pure, ridiculous spectacle with no true combat value.
