Michael Bisping rips on Georges St-Pierre’s fighting style during the pre-fight presser in Toronto on Friday.
The heat is building between UFC 217 headliners Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre. After their pre-fight press conference in Toronto on Friday, the two men got into a verbal altercation backstage, showing a usually subdued St-Pierre being a lot more aggressive.
Their demeanor towards each other during the actual presser was a lot less intense, albeit still hostile. During one of the moments, Bisping took shots at St-Pierre’s fighting style.
“You’re going to waste all your energy trying to take me down,” Bisping said (via MMA Fighting). “See, when you wrestle, that’s you trying to hide from fighting. I don’t hide from fighting. And Georges is going to have to fight me.”
“You know, I tried watching his fights, I fall asleep all the time. I swear to God, I do. I sit there, I have a coffee, which is a stimulant to keep me awake and I still can’t do it. I fall asleep every time.”
St-Pierre did promise to “put everything he has” into scoring a finish over Bisping, especially since he is coming into the fight as the underdog with something to prove. But for the champion, he is not expecting anything he has not seen before, and is confident that he will end up scoring the knockout finish.
“Listen, here’s the thing. I don’t doubt you’ve been working on other things because that’s what we do as martial artists, but at the end of the day you can’t reinvent the wheel,” Bisping said. “The fundamentals are still the same, the same kicks, the same punches, the same submissions. What? Have you invented a new submission I’ve never seen before? A kick I’ve never seen? What exactly are you going to do?
“You’re going to jab, jab, double leg, bore everybody to sleep. I, on the other side, am going to try and knock you out.”
UFC 217 takes place on November 4th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
